Classification of text functions by K. Brinker

In his approach K.Brinker makes use of classification of J. Searle and allocates the following basic functions of the text:

1) informative (Informationsfunktion);
2) appellative (Apellfunklion);
3) function of obligation (acceptance of duties) (Obligationsfunktion);
4) function of contact (Kontaktfunktion);
5) declarative function (Deklarationsfunktion).

As we may see, K.Brinker doesn’t use the terms ‘representatives’ and ‘expressives’, preferring to more homogeneous names (accordingly informative and contact functions). K.Brinker claims that his aim was to emphasize the peculiarities of communicative contact between the author of the text and the recipient, peculiarities that find their expression in the text.
