They begin to think that everything is dirty and different. That life at home is much better. They try and hide from reality and spend a lot of time with people from their own country. Or they have to stay at home alone during the day. They feel useless and unable to cope. Failing to learn the language does not help. They blame the new culture for their bad feelings.

They start by accepting that although food, habits and customs are different they are not necessarily worse. They become more confident that they can cope. When people can do this, they can start living happily in the new country. If they are able to do this, they should enjoy their time in the strange country.
